About Us
Oshunbumi Fernandez-West
Passion, love and persistence are the words that come to mind when describing my mission and my life. I am Philadelphia born and raised. I created the I AM B.U.M.I. organization in 1998 with a mission to teach children that they are Beautiful, Unique, Magnificent Individuals. My organization provides an array of programs such as dance, arts & crafts, filmmaking, fashion design, yoga, fitness, modeling and entrepreneurship. The programs continue to positively impact the lives of tens of thousands of children.
I was blessed to be the daughter of an iconic woman named Lois Fernandez who created the ODUNDE Festival—the largest African-American street festival in North America. I have been CEO of the organization since 1996. The festival is known throughout the world as one of the original models for African-American festivals, hosting many internationally known African and Caribbean performers, dignitaries, folk artists and cultural leaders. The festival has an estimated $28 million economic impact on the city of Philadelphia.
